Program Overview
The Georgia Tech Rural Computer Science Initiative was piloted in FY23 with the purpose of engaging Georgia Tech (GT) faculty to provide computer science (CS) instruction and curriculum to eight rural districts in Georgia. Funded through the Georgia General Assembly, the program includes the development of CS modules that are integrated into existing classroom courses.
Each module includes one week of instruction taught virtually by GT/Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) faculty, followed by a week of project-based learning to supplement module instruction. Through the support of the Georgia General Assembly, the program has grown to 40 districts and increased its scope in number of modules, breadth of teacher professional development, and additional supplemental programming, bringing the resources and expertise of Georgia Tech to classrooms in rural districts throughout Georgia.
